Area / Map

Geography: The beautiful and quaint little village of Jacobsbaai is situated on the West Coast, just off the scenic R27, and lies about halfway between Saldanha and Vredenburg. It is roughly an hour and a half's drive away from Cape Town. Art and Culture: Tourists to Jacobsbaai will love the fact that the atmosphere and quaintness of a typical West Coast fishing village is kept intact. The developers have stated that the village is not a "development", but more like a "cultural revival". Although the lime washed houses set against the deep blue ocean are reminiscent of a Greek island, they still retain their uniqueness and remain true "West Coast". It is said that Jacobsbaai is more of a lifestyle than an actual town! Science and Nature: Jacobsbaai is a nature lover's paradise. There is a 2km strip of beach and seafront and it is dotted with cosy bays and fascinating rocky outlets. As is the case with the entire West Coast and Namaqualand, Jacobsbaai bursts into colour each spring when the wild flowers bloom. It has been nicknamed "Namaqualand by the Sea" and it is easy to see why. The West Coast has a Mediterranean-type climate, which means that the summer days are long, warm and dry, while the winters are beautifully green. There is no need for travellers to look far for natural attractions, as there is an abundance of flora and fauna in the area including antelope species such as duiker and steenbok as well as a wide variety of bird life. Entertainment: Jacobsbaai is fast becoming a popular weekend getaway spot for Capetonians, owing to its close proximity to the Mother City. Although the main attraction is simply to relax, there is a variety of outdoor activities that will keep visitors entertained. Sport: Jacobsbaai is well situated for water sports enthusiasts. Nearby Saldanha Bay is a renowned windsurfing venue, as well as offering yachting from the harbour. The Langebaan Lagoon, in close proximity, is popular for water skiing, jet skiing and paragliding. Although Jacobsbaai doesn't have its own golf courses, travellers wishing to play a round can do so at three courses in about a 15km radius.
